            Sporting Clays

Sporting Clays is the fastest growing shooting sport in the country, and Island Lake Shooting Range is certainly the place to take aim at some serious shooting fun.  Each of our 15 sound absorbent, covered sporting clays stations offers 4 automatic clay target machines. With the use of a TargetKey system, shooters can utilize any combination of the four machines - whether it be singles, reports or true pairs. Each station is set up so that the A and B machines tailor to beginner shooters while the C and D targets are more suited to those interested in a real challenge. The course is 1 1/4 miles in length and can be traversed by foot or with the use of a rented golf cart. Sporting Clays is among the most fun of the shooting sports for many reasons. Eye-twisting target presentations, as well as the variety of models of clay targets make the sport extremely interesting. With rabbit, standard, midi, and battue targets, each station presents you with a whole new experience!   With numerous levels of difficulties per station, sporting clays is for everyone! Sporting Clays can be shot in a half round (50 targets) or full round (100 targets).

            5-Stand

5-Stand is very similar to sporting clays in that a wide variety of clay targets are thrown. There are five "stands" or stations to shoot from. There are usually somewhere between six and eight traps that throw the twenty-five targets. Participants shoot in turn at each of the five stands and various combinations of targets are thrown from the traps. A menu card,  with the availability of four levels of difficulty, advises the shooter of the sequence of targets. Five-Stand is a great way to get a sporting-clays-like experience in a small amount of time and walking distance.

            Skeet

_    Skeet utilizes two machines for presentations from eight shooting stations. The targets emerge from a high house ten feet above ground on the left and a low house 3-1/2 feet above ground on the right. Targets face one another forty yards apart and pass fifteen feet above a crossing stake set twenty yards from the shooting stations. Shooting stations are arranged around an arc running from one house to the other. A round of skeet consists of twenty-five shots, beginning with a high-house bird at station one, then a low house bird, then a double at one, two, six, and seven.

            Trap

In trap the targets are thrown from a single automatic trap quartering away from the shooter at various angles. One to five shooters move through five positions, shooting 5 shots at each - totaling twenty five targets in one round. We recommend trap for beginning shooters and novices.
